Benwood Launches Gaining Ground - Chattanooga's Local Food Movement
Background
In a move designed to increase the production and consumption of locally-grown food, the Benwood Foundation has launched a comprehensive food system reform effort Gaining Ground.
Gaining Ground is envisioned to help create and develop a sustainable, cohesive, vibrant, and distinctively Chattanoogan foodscape through grants, coordinated efforts and public awareness.
By building strong connections in our food system, supporting partners from a farm to table, informing policymakers and inspiring the public - Gaining Ground aspires to help bring better food to all and help our region view food in new ways.
Benwood will invest up to $1.65 million over the next three years in Gaining Ground. Gaining Ground is led by Jeff Pfitzer, who has considerable experience in local food issues, having served as the first director of Crabtree Farms, a local public-private partnership to renew urban agriculture. Mr. Pfitzer most recently served as Director of Special Projects at RiverCity Company.
